Common questions about names used by bots

How do bots pick fake names?

Most are generated: random first/last-name pairs pulled from word lists, mashed-together character strings, or names stuffed with keywords and links so the "name" itself carries the spam payload. That's why the same strange names appear on forms across thousands of unrelated websites.

How can I tell if a lead is fake?

Common signs: a name that matches this list, mismatched name and email address, gibberish or keyword-stuffed fields, and submission times inconsistent with your audience. Our guide to spotting fake form submissions walks through the full checklist.

Will blocking these names stop form spam?

No — names are the symptom, not the mechanism. Generators can produce unlimited fresh names, so a name blocklist only filters yesterday's campaign. Detection has to look at how the form was filled out, not just what was typed into it.
